Candles
In the lighting of candles, we remember and truly live the words of Our Lord:
“I am the Light of the World.” In the lighting of candles, we not only pray, but our prayers become smaller symbols of the One Light of Christ. In the burning of candles, our prayers rise up to Heaven day and night. Prayers for the intercession of Mother Mary and/or the saints are common because of their relationship with God in Heaven. Mother Mary, in particular, and the Saints are powerful intercessors. An old Catholic custom is to pray “Jesus is the Light of the world, a Light which never knows darkness” when lighting candles.
Blessed Sacrament Candles
Candles inserted in a plastic container, best fit the red sanctuary globes and are safer for usage. The cost is $10 each and are available from the Parish Office during regular office hours.
Marian Chapel Candles
Our Lady of Guadalupe candles in glass containers are available on Sundays after each Mass in the Narthex and Parish office during normal business hours. These recommended, high quality, beeswax candles, last for approximately seven days and are best for the Chapel’s environment. Thank you for your consideration.
Cost of each Our Lady of Guadalupe candle is $10.00, and proceeds help to support our Youth Ministry programs.
Presence Lamp
The Presence Lamp is located in the window of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The candle in this lamp burns for one week beginning on Friday. The lamp burns constantly as a sign of honor shown to the Lord.
We offer you the opportunity to dedicate the candle in this lamp to the memory of a loved one, etc. The cost is $15.00 and can be reserved by contacting the Parish Office.
Mass Intentions
The tradition of offering Masses for others originates in the very early Church.
A Mass can be requested for several reasons: in thanksgiving, for the intentions of another person (as a birthday), or, more commonly, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died. During this time, we clearly recognize the importance of a mass intention when we face the death of someone we love, even a person who was not Catholic. To have a Mass and our own prayers offered up is most beneficial and comforting.
When a priest offers Holy Mass, he has three intentions: 1) to offer the Mass reverently and validly in accord with the norms of the Church, 2) to offer the Mass in union with the whole Church and for the good of the whole Church, and 3) to offer the Mass for a particular intention.
Mass Intentions at St. Brigid must be requested in person by coming to the parish office during business hours. Catholic tradition is one intention/person per Mass with a $5.00 donation per intention. Up to three (3) Mass Intentions per individual/family (again, one intention or person per Mass) can be made per year.
Mass cards are available by request.
